Trailing drawdown vs end-of-day drawdown
Both are "trailing": the loss floor rises as your account makes new highs and never moves back down. The difference is what moves it. Intraday trailing follows your highest equity at any moment, including open profit. End-of-day (EOD) trailing only moves on your closing balance.
Worked example ($50K account, $2,000 drawdown)
Start: balance $50,000, floor $48,000. You go long, the trade runs to +$1,500 open profit (equity $51,500), then you exit at +$300 (balance $50,300) and finish the day there.
| Intraday trailing | End-of-day trailing | |
|---|---|---|
| Floor during the trade | Rises to $49,500 the moment equity hits $51,500 | Stays at $48,000 |
| Room left after exit at $50,300 | $800 | $2,300 |
| Floor next morning | $49,500 | $48,300 (closing balance $50,300 − $2,000) |
| Does open profit move the floor? | Yes | No |
| Is the floor enforced live? | Yes | Yes, at most firms (see note) |
Important: "EOD" describes when the floor is recalculated, not when it's checked. Topstep, Apex, Tradeify, TradeDay, Alpha Futures, Top One and FundedNext all say on their help pages that the EOD floor is still enforced in real time, so an open loss that touches it fails the account immediately.
Static drawdown
A few firms also sell static drawdown (a fixed floor that never moves), e.g. Elite Trader Funding's Static plan. Most firms also lock the trailing floor once it reaches the starting balance or starting balance + $100.

"Both" means the firm sells separate plans or applies different types at different stages; check the specific plan you're buying. Last verified Nov 2026 from each firm's help center.
Which suits you?
This is a description, not a recommendation. Traders who hold winners through pullbacks tend to get more room from EOD floors; intraday plans are sometimes cheaper. Size so a full stop-out doesn't approach the floor: use the position size calculator and see how to calculate futures position size. Compare all firms in the compatibility matrix.
